CHÂTEAU EN VEXIN

A Tale of Restoration and Renewal

In the picturesque countryside of Vexin, just a stone's throw away from Paris, lies the Château en Vexin—a historic gem awaiting a revival. Entrusted with the monumental task of breathing new life into this ancient abode, interior architect Olivier Lempereur embarked on a journey of reinvention, while stylist Hélène Guillon Lempereur curated a vision of timeless elegance.

The Parisian owner instantly fell in love with this charming manor, envisioning it as a sanctuary for unique family moments amidst the tranquil countryside. However, time had taken its toll on the venerable walls, and upon first encounter, the house lay in a state of disrepair. Despite the need for renovation, the owner expressed a heartfelt desire to retain the patina, the marks of time, and the enduring history of the estate.

The renovation's ethos boiled down to three words: authentic, familial, practical.

Respecting historical constraints, selecting materials with precision, embracing controlled imperfections, judiciously integrating existing elements, and discreetly incorporating modern technologies—these were the ingredients of the new identity breathed into the manor by Hélène Guillon.

As the custodian of the space, the magnificent concrete staircase, adorned with delicate wrought-iron railings, stands as a testament to the seamless collaboration between architect and stylist.

Seventy window fasteners were painstakingly restored, magnificent royal blue ceramics were repurposed as backsplashes in the ultra-modern Boffi kitchen, antique paneling was meticulously repaired, artisans were sought to replicate doors to perfection, and ancient opus romain stone was meticulously laid using time-honored techniques. Floors and walls were stripped bare, revealing the raw beauty beneath the layers of time.

In essence, it was about striking a delicate balance between tradition and contemporary sensibilities, employing modern techniques in service of history. Take, for instance, the exquisite bathrooms, where Hélène sourced aged Calacatta marble from Italy, reminiscent of antiquity yet equipped with the comforts and technologies of today.

The Château en Vexin stands as a testament to the harmonious fusion of past and present, where each corner whispers tales of bygone eras while embracing the comforts of modern living. It's a testament to the collaborative vision of Hélène Guillon Lempereur and Olivier Lempereur, where expertise meets passion to create a timeless masterpiece.
